Close General Ledger Transactions

Use this page to prevent ordinary transactions from being posted on or before a selected closing date. Close the period only after accounting review and approval are complete.

Before closing

  • Complete the Month-End Accounting checklist.
  • Confirm bank reconciliation, customer and supplier balances, inventory, payroll, fixed assets, tax, and adjusting journals.
  • Run and retain the final trial balance and financial reports.
  • Communicate the closing date to affected users.

Close the period

  1. Confirm the current closing date.
  2. Enter the new closing date approved by Finance.
  3. Review the warning and confirm which transaction dates will be blocked.
  4. Save the change.
  5. Test with an inquiry and, where appropriate, a controlled transaction to confirm the restriction.

Important: Moving the closing date backward reopens periods and may allow changes to previously reported balances. Reopen only under an authorized correction procedure.

After closing

  • Archive or distribute the approved period-end reports.
  • Monitor late documents that must be posted in the next period or handled through an approved reopening.
  • Keep evidence of who approved the close and any later reopening.
