Manage Leave Types
Use Manage Leave Types to define the kinds of leave employees can request, such as annual leave, sick leave, unpaid leave, or study leave.
Before you begin
- Confirm the leave policy, eligibility rules, unit of measurement, and approval requirements.
- Decide whether the leave affects payroll, attendance, or the employee's available balance.
- Create holiday calendars and work schedules before relying on automatic day calculations.
Configure a leave type
- Enter a clear Name and short code.
- Choose whether the leave is paid or unpaid when that option is available.
- Set entitlement, carry-forward, accrual, minimum/maximum duration, or supporting-document rules required by your policy.
- Select the approval behavior and active status.
- Save the leave type and test it with a sample request.
Good practice
- Do not create separate types for minor wording differences if they follow the same policy.
- Do not change the meaning of a leave type that already has transactions; create a new type when the policy changes materially.
- Review balances and payroll impact after changing entitlement or paid/unpaid behavior.
Important: A leave-type change can affect balances, attendance, approvals, and payroll calculations. Test policy changes before applying them to live requests.
