Trial Balance
Use the Trial Balance to review debit and credit balances for General Ledger accounts over a selected period. Accountants use it to check completeness, investigate unusual balances, and support financial-statement preparation.
Select the report
- Choose the company and date or fiscal period.
- Select comparison, dimension, account range, zero-balance, or detail options when available.
- Run the report.
- Confirm that the report period and currency match your review purpose.
Read the result
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Opening balance | Account balance before the selected period |
| Debit / Credit movement | Transactions posted during the period |
| Closing balance | Balance at the end of the selected period |
Review checklist
- Total debits equal total credits.
- Cash, receivables, payables, inventory, tax, payroll, and retained earnings are reasonable.
- Suspense, clearing, and temporary accounts contain only expected items.
- Large or unusual movements can be traced to supporting transactions.
- Subledger totals agree with their control accounts.
Tip: Use General Ledger inquiry to drill into an unexpected account balance, then filter by date, reference, person, or dimension.
